So has anyone done a French polish over a zpoxy pore fill? Are there any reasons why this would be a bad idea? I've already pore filled a guitar with the zpoxy and I'm tired of lacquer and would rather FP it instead. Unless there is some reason why I shouldn't. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

I've used shellac over zpoxy. I fear to call it french polish when using zpoxy in fear that the traditionalist police will attack ![]() |

I have also applied shellac with the FP method on four instruments over zpoxy. It is a great match. On two other instruments I put down a couple of wash coats of shellac over zpoxy before spraying with EM6000. |

All of my recent guitars that needed pore filling are FP over z-poxy. I like Z-poxy for its general clarity and very slight amber tint, and I French Polish everything now, even a steel string that I'm just finishing. This is a classical that left home in April. I use epoxy under all my FP that needs a grain fill. |

Sweet! Thanks guys. Now if I can just get the FP method down I'll be set. |

I found Robbie Obrien's online course well worth the cost, especially if your not familiar at all with the french polish technique, as I was. |

+1 on Robbie's course. I pretty much follow that method. Work drier rather than wetter. If you can feel dampness on the surface as you are working, you are probably working too wet. |

Sounds like I need to check out this online course. Thanks for the heads up. |

Shellac will adhere fine over Zpoxy (though can't stand epoxy) but remember epoxy doesn't adhere well to shellac. So don't apply any shellac to the bare wood or try and start French polishing until you are happy with the epoxy pore fill. I'm an egg white man myself. Colin |

I like egg whites too but for my oak guitars I think I may try out an epoxy. I learned to French Polish from the Milburn guitar tutorial and several Youtube Vids. Milburn used 5-minute epoxy. So yeah it will work just fine. |
